MAJOR SPRING SHAPE-UP ANNOUNCEMENT
I have a major announcement for my Spring Shaper-Uppers!
When I announced the contest, I said that the prize was TBA. It was to be announced because I was approaching some of my favorite healthy brands to see if they would sponsor the contest.
WELL!
Clif has generously agreed to sponsor not only this contest but an upcoming giveaway.
The winner of the Spring Shape-Up will receive:

Spring Shape-Up Challenge!: Me and You
Y’all wanna hear about yourselves first, not me.
YOU:
You all drank an insane amount of water; I feel for toilets everywhere.
Some of you met your goals, some of you didn’t! It seems most of you that didn’t know where you fell short and how you can improve. If you don’t, please feel free to ask me or e-mail me.
ME:
I let you all know how I did on my first week’s...

Boozin'
A lot of you Spring Shaper-Uppers (you’re like fix-‘er-uppers, but way hotter) have asked me how you can booze and lose weight.
To be honest, from last February - last August, I didn’t drink very much. I can count the number of times I felt hungover the next day one one hand. Fitting into skinny jeans, or even less fat jeans, was just way more important to me than that extra...
Internet Runners Social Club!
Tonight I met up with Michelle, Marc and a few other people whose Tumblrs I do not know for the Internet Runners Social Club.
An easy 30 minutes in Central Park at conversational speed and a beer at Kennedy’s afterwards.
Some awesome people and some great conversation.
Y’all missed a good time! Follow @IRsocialclub or Internet Runners Social Club on Tumblr to learn about upcoming...
Hello, new followers!
Welcome! There’s been quite a few of you today. I’m guessing you found me via Casey, or maybe Jordan (I won an iPhone case from her!).
Anyway - I’m a 26-year-old Manhattanite who has lost about (weight fluctuations be damned!) 50 pounds in the past year by…wait for it…eating right and exercising!
I take pictures of most everything I eat - even the occasional...
Do you have very certain ideas about what your...
I do. Breakfast feels like it should have some kind of carb and egg in it and be relatively filling.
Lunch should resemble a salad or a sandwich and be a little more filling.
Dinner should be a piece of meat/fish and some vegetables. But who’s to say I can’t make my salmon for lunch with some veggies? (Yesterday, me. I got Pump for lunch because I felt like salmon was too dinner-y to...
Running Nightmare
I got an e-mail last night from a reader that she was proud of herself for running her first sub-11:00 mile, because she had been the kid in middle school lagging behind everyone else in the hell that is the timed mile.
I also had a nightmare last night that I went running with Meg and that I was gasping for air and just couldn’t keep up.
I woke up this morning and read that e-mail and...

Week 1!
So, here were my goals for the week. How did I do?
My Goals for This Week
Fitness: stick to the cardio schedule Joel gave me: 2 days of spin class, 2 days of StairMaster, 1 day of the AMT elliptical and 1 day of rowing/Cybex. I failed miserably at this one. I did one day of cardio.
Nutrition: Eat as cleanly as possible (and make as many meals as possible.) I have a friend coming into town this...

Spring Shape-Up Challenge!
So - the challenge has been underway for just about a week now, and I finally got around to tallying up your totals! There are 52 of you, with goals ranging from running one mile to running a full marathon; those of you moving to DC, California, those of you finishing up school (undergrad, grad school, med school!).
It’s 1am as I write this, and I need to get back on track with my own going...

Kicking It Up a Notch: Compound Circuit Training!
I’ve been working out with Joel for about 50 weeks. I’ve lost 50 pounds. I recently ran a half-marathon. I’d like to think I’m pretty damn strong at this point.
Then I walked into the gym yesterday for a workout with Joel. After a weekend of slacking, I was excited to be back in the gym. But nothing could have prepared me for the ass-kicking that awaited me. Technically,...

Calorie Counting
It is with my last post in mind that I write this post.
Calorie counting and Weight Watchers points work for some people. I tried all that, and it wasn’t for me. When I started, Joel told me to just put the right things in my body: fruits, vegetables and lean protein. Lately, I’ve been struggling just like y’all with the healthy eating. So I thought I’d start trying to...
Where I'm Coming From When I Write Here
(Where I physically am coming to you from is NYC!)
I had a talk with my friend this weekend about this here blog. When I started, it was to chronicle my weight-loss adventure and also give me another outlet to write. It’s definitely still both of those, but it’s also definitely started tending towards advice about weight loss. And given that I lost 50 pounds in the past year,...
I Really Enjoy Watching The Biggest Loser...
…but damn, this show would be different without its product placements and sponsorships.
Subway? Ziploc?
(I’m not going to lie, Ziploc baggies are tremendously helpful for weight loss, because they helps you pack small portions and snacks while you’re on the go.)
Do As I Say, Not As I Do...
Between the hours of midnight Sunday and 3 PM yesterday, I had 4 Red Bulls.
Between 5pm Thursday night and whenever the J-E-T-S game was over on Sunday, I had copious amounts of alcohol.
I have not been to the gym since Thursday. It didn’t happen when Meggie was here, and since she left Sunday evening, I was nose-to-the-grindstone busy with freelance work.
I am tired, but because...
How much weight do my challengers have to lose...
Between having Meg in town and being busy with work all day today, I haven’t had time to total up the total number of pounds my Spring Shape Up challengers have to lose. (Or even how many of you there are!)
I think there’s probably about 50-55 of you. My guess is the grand total is 650. What’s your guess?

Why you shouldn't weigh yourself *too* often
I had a feeling “meeting my goal weight” was some kind of weird fluctuation, so I hopped on the scale tonight. (I know, I know, don’t weigh yourself at night…)
Eight pounds more than yesterday! Oh water weight…
