Roll It Out: Untangle Your Knots With Foam Rollers... →
Ignore that this is from a site about gay men and gay dating; I found it searching for “knots quads knees,” since Joel The Trainer said the knee pain/stiffness is basically a result of knots forming in my quads and causing my knees to pull up. I was looking for something thta would explain the foam rolling he recommended I do after I do cardio. I’ll be foam rolling the tops of my...
Thank you!
No, don’t worry, I’m not hanging up my laptop. (Um, unless someone wants to buy me a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, in which case I’d gladly retire this here lowly three-year old white MacBook, bless her heart.)
I was really down on myself for no good reason today (nothing happened, I’m not PMSing, and I’m usually in a really good mood.) I got a handful of comments...

The power of a compliment
This morning I was feeling a bit down on myself for no good reason. I looked in the mirror and nothing looked right. My logical mind knew I had lost 30 pounds (forgot to update y’all on that! It’s officially 30!!!) but the emotional side of me was saying “yeah, but you could definitely stand to lose some more! you still look fat!”
My little trick to shut up that devil on...
Can You Get Fit in Six Minutes a Week? - Well Blog... →
I hate provocative headlines like this. NO, you can’t get fit in six minutes a week. Or even a day. I do interval training, but I do it every other workout (on the rare occasions I do two workouts in a day, one’s interval, one’s plain ole’ cardio), so it’s not like I’m exercising 15 minutes a day. There’s something to be said about interval training, but...

Starbucks revamps bakery food ingredients -... →
My friendly barista (he really is, I love him!) gave me the heads up about this this morning. I’ll be interested to see how that affects the calorie count of my one true love.
Conference in food
Last night, the salad I got for lunch at the food court here made me absolutely sick to my stomach. I stayed in and ordered room service. (eating in bed is fun sometimes!) The non-salad item that looked the healthiest was a grilled chicken sandwich. Turns out it came with bacon (bacon!) and provolone. My stomach felt so empty that I was ravenous. I ate the sandwich, but only one of the pieces of...
Wednesday update
As mentioned in my last post, my brain is fried. I couldn’t take pics today of what I was eating, because I totally would have been that crazy girl. But…I had some fruit and a piece of whole-grain toast for breakfast. My body missed having protein. For lunch, I had a salad. At my self-imposed snacktime, I snuck a Luna bar on the show floor. I’m currently enjoying a little me time...

By Mark Bittman (will this man STOP being amazing for 5 seconds?)
Mark assumes you’ve stocked your pantry with easy basics like spices, good cooking oils and vinegars, long-keeping carbs like pasta, rice and udon noodles, as well as soy sauce, garlic, lemon, butter and Parmesan cheese. With these staples, you can just pick up a few fresh ingredients every now and...
Getting back on track
skinnyminnie:
1. Don’t turn a bad meal into a bad MONTH. It’s all about being aware and able to move forward, and being willing to make conscious, smart decisions. If you eat too much or have a high-calorie meal (and it happens to all of us), there’s no reason to give up and blow the rest of the day. Truly. That kind of attitude is not productive and could even lead you to blow the week or even...
Yesterday
At work dinners, there’s no way to slyly pull out the iPhone and snap a pic. Which is a shame, because I had a wonderful steak last night at Morton’s. In the spirit of honesty, I also had 2 little entrees on pieces of bread (a mozzarella tomato crostini and a piece of steak on top of a baguette). Dinner also included a salad that tasted like it was with balsamic (a bit more than...
In which I procrastinate from packing
The last time I went on a business trip was in November, when I was still a chunky monkey. (mm, ice cream.) I definitely had my three square meals every day, and they included all kinds of not-good for me stuff. But I’m at a conference, I would reason.
This time? I’m bringing my sneaks, some Luna bars and plan on making all kinds of good eating decisions. Should I get into a...
She survived suicide attempt, lost 410 pounds -... →
Yeah, I’m pretty awesome (haha), but this woman I saw on the Today Show this morning is truly inspiring.
If she can do it, so can you!
28-9 pounds!!!
I got on the scale this morning before going to the trainer and knew he’d like what he saw. Sure enough, I got a huge high five. (Since starting with him, I have become way high-five happy. I’m okay with that.)
After I got home this morning, I weighed myself again, and my scale said 160, or 29 pounds less than when I started!!!!!!!
I had a family reunion this weekend, and my cousin...
This morning in food
Half a Luna bar before my run and two scrambled eggs and two pieces of turkey bacon after. I’m going to post my run stats (yay Nike +!) in the subsequent post. They kinda suck but I got an awful stomach cramp midway through and walked for a few minutes.
Some thoughts on inspiration/motivation
So I got an e-mail from reader Natalie:
Congrats on 26 lbs! Your success - especially not letting yourself fall off the wagon when you aren’t “perfect” with the diet or exercise - is truly inspiring. I just have a quick question about your trainer encouraging you not to have ANY dairy or cereal or even whole grain bread. I am looking to healthfully (but quickly) shed some lbs...
Today update
It is the end of the world in NYC. It is cold and rainy, and it hasn’t stopped for days. I had my Fage and granola for breakfast with me…but in a cold, wet moment, went for the familiar comfort of the spinach feta wrap, granting myself an early Friday treat. No wrap tomorrow! I must say…it’s rather filling. I didn’t need a snack this am.
