Getting Ready for My Second Triathlon

So tomorrow I will participate in my second triathlon.

The first one went relatively well, except for that whole flat tire thing.

I didn’t train for this as well as I would have liked to, but I’m fairly confident in finishing the distance.

What I am nervous about: the open water swim. I have never swam in open water in a race-type situation before.

I’m a little nervous about being kicked in the face or getting a little claustrophobic in the crowd, but I’m most nervous about being able to have an idea of where I am. I’ve heard that looking up and attempting to sight the buoys helps. Or X-ray goggles.

It’s in my parents’ hometown, so I came home tonight and brought my cheering squad: Ashley and Shannon. Ashley’s husband, Bo, is also doing the tri, and Shannon is just a fixture on my cheering squad.

Apparently, four extra people constitutes an army to my parents and we had three different kind of pastas: whole-wheat, regular and gluten-free.

Fancy.

Carbed-up, ready to sleep.

Let’s hope I don’t drown or swim rogue and end up back in NYC.

You’ll do great! Have so much fun!
When I do open water swims, I try to look up every 3 strokes. I know it seems like a lot, but it’s so much better than swimming 10-15 strokes and then looking up and realizing you’re zig-zagging:)

Open H2O swim can be crazy–I remember my first one in Lake Michigan. Totally got elbowed, pushed, etc. Just had to be aggressive (without being a jerk).
